Babe Ruth Calgary has been a fixture in youth baseball within our city since 1995. For almost three decades, we have had one of the longest running baseball leagues in Calgary. As such, we have access to the top two natural grass baseball fields within the city's limits. At the core of the league's mandate is to provide the highest quality competitive baseball that is affordable and offers BOTH travel and non-travel options. Over the years, Babe Ruth Calgary has expanded to become a highly competitive, high-performance premier baseball league with approximately 200 players aged 13-19 years old.
Our U18 Premier Team is comprised of 16-18 of our league's top players in the 16-18 year old age group. Our U16 Premier Team is comprised of 16-18 of our league's top players in the 14-16 year old age group. The Premier Teams have a nine month training experience at the AAA level. The main part of our league is comprised of our Club Teams (view league structure tab) and we also provide summer Travel Team opportunities. For our Club Teams, we offer evaluation opportunities in February each year, with registration starting in early December. Players evaluate for spots and, if successful, are drafted to teams for the upcoming Spring/Summer season. Player placement is determined by a player's evaluation and ability, not their age. We believe that players should play at the level their skills and baseball acumen allow, and that should not be dictated solely by their age.
Once the Club Teams are determined, evaluations for the Summer Travel Teams begin in April and May. These Summer Travel Teams are comprised of the top players from within our Club Teams and these Summer Travel Teams play in tournaments throughout Alberta, but also travel to the Babe Ruth Pacific Northwest tournaments and other tournament opportunities in the USA.

All Babe Ruth players must be at least 13 years of age by May 1st in the season in which they are registering to play, and players cannot turn 20 years old during the calendar year in the season in which they are registering to play.
Babe Ruth Calgary typically has approximately 12-15 Club Teams and 4 Summer Travel Teams.
Registration for the Spring/Summer Season starts at the beginning of December, and player evaluations take place in early February. Once the evaluations are completed, the Babe Ruth Calgary Player Draft occurs.

Once teams are formed at the end of February, we begin our indoor spring training season in March through to the middle of May. Babe Ruth Calgary's Spring/Summer season is comprised of approximately 24 local games (plus playoffs) from May 15 through to the first week of August. The Summer Travel Team programs run concurrently with Club Teams and through careful scheduling, we do not have games/tournaments overlapping between regular Club Team play and Travel Team play. Our Summer Travel teams compete in three tournaments per summer, including the week long Pacific NorthWest Regionals tournament in the USA. Babe Ruth Calgary runs a separate Fall Ball season which we like to call our "Harvest League" which happens after our main Spring/Summer season has wrapped up.
Our Harvest League is another opportunity for our players to continue to play baseball into the fall which can sometimes the best baseball of the year. Our Harvest League registration opens towards the middle-end of August and the games run from the beginning of September through to the end of October - weather permitting.
Coaching Staff in Babe Ruth Calgary
Babe Ruth Calgary has incredible coaches up and down our organization. The foundation of our coaching staff is more than 50 volunteers, 95% of which are non-parents. The strength of our alumni group is reflected in our coaches with many of our former players returning to coach in our league. This group of coaches is supported by a staff of paid Technical Directors that oversee player development and help our volunteer coaching group.
Babe Ruth provides exceptional baseball opportunities, but it is never just about baseball. Baseball is a vehicle for teaching many of life’s most important skills and lessons. Our players experience a wide range of off-field successes and we take great pride in the countless number of alumni who have returned to be volunteer coaches in our program.
