Babe Ruth Calgary (BRC) is once again pleased to be offering scholarships to our graduating players.
The scholarships are given in the name of Matt Krol, former Calgary Blues athlete.
On August 4, 1994 Matt Krol was tragically struck by lightning and killed instantly. Matt was where he loved to be, on the baseball field, playing for the Calgary Blues in the Canadian Big League Championships in Stoney Creek, Ontario at the time. Matt was an inspiration to those who knew him.
His love for life, his family, his friends, his teammates and the game of baseball combined with his ever-present grin will always be remembered.
In the summer of 1996, the Calgary Blues and Babe Ruth Calgary dedicated a plaque at the entrance of the Optimist field in memory of Matt.
The plaque is intended to remind us of the fun that Matt had playing the game he loved.
Babe Ruth Calgary will be awarding scholarships up to $500 to successful applicants. Award amounts will take into consideration the length of time in BRC, and/or any BRC Scholarship awards previously received.
All applications are reviewed unanimously by the reviewing committee.

Criteria to be Eligible:
- Must be a Babe Ruth player in the year of the application and have also participated in BRC regular season baseball for a minimum of an additional two consecutive years.
- The applicant is planning on attending a post-secondary institution in the fall of the year of the scholarship application.
- First time applicants will have priority in the case of limited scholarship monies.
Player Application Process:
Part 1:
The applicant must complete the 2024 Matt Krol Memorial Scholarship Application Form.
Please gather all the documentation required prior to completing the form:
- Alberta Final Transcript from grade 12 or if already in post-secondary a copy of your Final Year-end Transcript.
- Letter of Reference from a high school teacher or University professor. If this is the second or third time applying please provide a different reference letter from the previous application(s).
- Proof of registration for the fall in a post-secondary institute.

Part 2:
The candidate must email to specialevents@baberuthcalgary
- Student ID from a post-secondary institute
- Tuition Receipt (Proof of Payment)
Submission Deadline: October 15, 2024
Coach Application Process:
The applicant must have volunteer coaching experience in the current season. If so,please complete this form
