Why Choose Babe Ruth Calgary?

Why would I choose Babe Ruth Calgary over other Options?

Babe Ruth Calgary has been a fixture in Youth Baseball within our city since 1995.  We started as a league for 16-18 year old players, and over the years, Babe Ruth has expanded to offer a high quality playing experience for players ages 13 to 19.

Reasonable Cost

Babe Ruth Calgary offers a flat fee pricing for playing within the league, and we have payment plans available so that the upfront costs aren't as demanding.

League Play Within the City

Babe Ruth Calgary offers a AAA and AA Club Team program that plays within the City of Calgary at our great facilities and there is no need to travel outside the city to play baseball, unless your player chooses to evaluate for one of our Summer Travel Teams.

Smaller Roster Sizes

Babe Ruth Calgary has traditionally held smaller roster sizes than many other organizations in and around the city. In addition, we have a 70/90 rule in effect for our A and AA divisions, meaning that no one player will play less than 70 percent of the time or more than 90 percent of the time.

Non-Parent Coaching Staff

Babe Ruth Calgary has incredible coaches up and down our organization.  The foundation of our coaching staff is more than 50 volunteers, 95% of which are non-parents.  Miki Kawahara leads the way and was an academic All-Canadian playing at the NWAACC level. He has coached the BC Junior Premier Baseball League and also the 2009 Canada Cup (Team Alberta 17U) team. Our other technical directors, of which there are approximately 10, are equally as impressive and we pride ourselves in their accomplishments. Meanwhile our other 50+ coaches are at the heart and soul of our organization. Many times these non-parent, volunteer coaches are university or college level baseball players that have been drafted to various institutions in Canada and the US. They come back to Babe Ruth to give back to the organization and be a role-model for the athletes coming behind them.

College Recruitment

Starting the college recruitment process may seem like a daunting task, but with the advice from Babe Ruth Calgary, it doesn’t have to be! We are here to help you from start to finish. This is an exciting time and does require a lot of work but is definitely worth it.

Please see our College Recruitment tab for more info about college recruitment.

A League Unto Itself

Babe Ruth Calgary is comprised of teams that always have other teams to play against. During the 2020 season when Covid-19 was shutting down many organizations and their ability to travel, Babe Ruth Calgary was able to quickly adapt to the provincial pandemic protocols and continue playing on our fields with minimal disruption.

Travel Teams

Babe Ruth Calgary runs a total of four summer travel teams.  All of these teams have an entry into the Babe Ruth Pacific Northwest Regional tournament, and all have the ultimate goal of winning that tournament to earn their way to the Babe Ruth World Series.

Our U18 Premier Travel Team plays a full travel schedule and does not participate in Babe Ruth Calgary league play. The U16 Premier Team plays within the AAA Division within our league, and additionally they play a travel schedule throughout Alberta and the US.

Our Summer Travel Teams operate concurrently with the league schedule so their Travel Team practices/games do not interfere with their Club Team's schedule. Evaluations for Summer Travel Teams are held in May once the Spring Season is underway. These travel teams will play in tournaments throughout the Pacific Northwest region (US and Canada), and will attend the week-long Babe Ruth Pacific Northwest Regionals tournament in July.

Matt Krol Student Scholarships

Babe Ruth Calgary offers scholarships to our graduating players. Every year Babe Ruth Calgary awards successful applicants scholarships of between $250 and a maximum of $500 each. Award amounts will take into consideration length of time in BRC, and/or previous award amounts. These scholarships are given in the name of Matt Krol who was a former Calgary Blues athlete. More information about Matt and scholarships in his name, can be found under the About Us tab.

Our Fields

Babe Ruth Calgary has the opportunity to play on some of the best baseball diamonds in the city. Our diamonds have grass infields, lights for night games, covered dugouts and batting cages. As an organization we have arranged long-term agreements with the City of Calgary and have access to Optimist, Glenmore and New Brighton Athletic Parks for the majority of our on-field events.  Babe Ruth Calgary also uses Foothills Athletic park and Lynnwood park which includes two newly renovated batting cages.

Umpire Clinics

Babe Ruth Calgary offers and encourages as many players as possible to take the Umpire Clinic put on by Alberta Baseball. Many of our older players will umpire games in a lower division than what they play in, and have found it is a fantastic way to earn some money doing something they enjoy!
